The rural village communities in the district of Colquechaca in Bolivia suffer from great food insecurity as a result of insufficient agricultural yield. The crop is barely sufficient for their own consumption as droughts and water shortages make it hard to increase the crop yield. Moreover, the disdain of the work of women in agriculture, livestock farming or housework represents another problem in the region.
The project launched by the local organisation IPTK (Instituto Politécnico Tomás Katari) supports women and their small family farms. An integral approach is used promoting not only production in agriculture and livestock farming and the basic parameters of production, but also enhancing the local organisational capacities.
The aim is to promote food security and sovereignty and to develop cultivation methods and infrastructure. In doing so, the IPTK is committed to promoting gender equality and ecological sustainability.
