The cultivated landscape gives Haldenstein a picturesque atmosphere. Prominent undercut slopes merge with the gentle Rhine Plane pointing to the eventful history of the landscape.
The exterior area of the project is designed as a combination of the formal components of the cultivated landscape with the elements of the meandering floodplains. The magnificent lime tree in the schoolyard points to the entrance of the main school building and is the central element on the square together with the fountain which incorporates the idea of the water of the Rhine river. The considerable size of the square with the adjoining walls and facades of the buildings emphasize the village character typical of the Canton of Grisons.
