Iconic Awards 2025 - Best of Best
The Waldhotelpark transforms a historically significant site in Vaduz into a vibrant, ecologically valuable, and socially welcoming landscape. It honors the legacy of the former Waldhotel, renowned for its forest baths and lush gardens, by reintroducing native plants, including endangered species, and creating valuable habitats for pollinators and wildlife. The preservation of mature trees provides natural shade and biodiversity while offering a tranquil environment for visitors.
The park is designed as an inclusive and multifunctional space, with shaded seating areas, barbecue areas, open meadows, and an accessible network of paths for walks and relaxation. The historic cellar of the forest hotel has been restored and reinterpreted as an inviting meeting place to strengthen the connection to the site's history.
Sustainability is at the heart of the design, with green infrastructure to combat urban heat and ensure sustainable water management. Dense tree canopies provide natural cooling, while permeable surfaces promote water infiltration. Low-maintenance vegetation and local materials reduce environmental impact and ensure the park's long-term resilience.
More than just a park, the Waldhotelpark serves as a model for climate-resilient urban green spaces. By combining nature, history, and ecological restoration, the project enriches the public space in Vaduz and leaves a sustainable legacy for future generations.
